Democratic Campaign Machine Wonders Who’s Pulling the Strings on Hispanic Republican

The Republican Party chose Carlos Curbelo to deliver a rebuttal in Spanish to President Obama’s State of the Union speech last night, which doesn’t seem to be sitting well with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

While newly-elected Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) delivered the televised GOP response in English, freshman Congressman Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), who is of Cuban descent, delivered a similar response in Spanish. The Spanish version delivered by Curbelo, while similar to Ernst’s, also included a Republican response on immigration reform, as well as a message on Cuba and education.

Regardless, the DCCC still accused the GOP on Tuesday of using Curbelo as a “puppet” offering a “translation” of the Republicans’ “anti-Hispanic” agenda.

The criticism was immediately met with charges of hypocrisy from the National Republican Congressional Committee, the DCCC’s counterpart. When asked, NRCC national press secretary Ian Prior told IJReview:

“The DCCC and their handpicked candidates just spent the last cycle calling veterans cowards and insulting women candidates for their career choices.

Now Nancy Pelosi’s campaign organization has stooped to a new low and is claiming that the son of Cuban exiles is anti-Hispanic because he is Republican.

DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján needs to immediately apologize for yet another pathetic stunt from his amateurish organization.”

Prior was referring to the questionable statements made by DCCC chosen candidates in previous elections, such as Democrat candidate John Foust, who made controversial statements in 2014 about his opponent Barbara Comstock’s job record:

“In her mind, that means giving tax benefits to special interests and the super wealthy,” Foust said. “I don’t think she’s even had a real job.”

In reality, Comstock had held previous jobs, including working on Capitol Hill, running a business, and serving as a Virginia state delegate.
