The city of Philadelphia recently lost a member of its police force during a firefight in a local video game store. Officer Robert Wilson III, who was buying a video game for his son at Gamestop, was drawn into fire with would-be robbers, and it cost him his life.
Philly Police Captain James Clark had nothing but warm words for the fallen officer, reports Associated Press:
“‘The officer was a hero and a warrior,’ Clark said. ‘He fought to the very, very end, firing at both of them. Unfortunately, he lost his life.'”
Both shooters, identified as brothers Carlton Hipps and Ramone Williams, were arrested and have been charged with murder, attempted murder, and robbery. Both brothers have previous arrest records.
Captain Clark told reporters that Officer Wilson was able to save the lives of other shoppers in the store by drawing fire away from them, while returning fire to the robbers. Wilson kept up his fight even after being hit
According to The Philadelphia Tribune, the national chain of Gamestop has donated $50,000 to aid Wilson’s family, including setting up donation bins in stores up and down the East Coast.
There are several other ways to make donations to Wilson’s family, including a GoFundMe account.
