Secrets, scandals, and national security concerns have dominated the latest headlines regarding our President, as well as his former Secretary of State and presumptive Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton. And they have taken a toll on their popularity.

Public opinion regarding President Obama’s patriotism and honesty are on the decline, as is perception of Hillary Clinton’s trustworthiness, according to a new Fox News poll:

Rudy Giuliani was recently excoriated for questioning the President’s love for America, however according to the Fox News poll, there are many who agree with him. Public polling has shown a decrease from 60% of Americans having faith in the President’s patriotism, to now only 54%.

Considering news about foreign donations collected by the Clinton Foundation during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State, and recent exposure that she used a personal email for business conducted in the same position, it is no surprise that her polling number would suffer:

Over course of almost one year, public opinion of Clinton’s honesty has dropped from 54% to 44%.

According to the Washington Post, these recent issues have left Democratic activists looking to possible alternatives for a 2016 presidential nominee:

“The problem is, there’s nobody out there who’s not Clinton who’s the equivalent of Barack Obama,” said Larry Drake, chairman of the Portsmouth Democrats in New Hampshire. “He was a fresh face . . . and he gave great speeches and he turned out to be electable.”

H. Boyd Brown of the Democratic National Committee from South Carolina has expressed his reservations on running Hillary Clinton in the wake of these scandals:

“’Nobody down here wants a coronation,’ Brown said. ‘We need options. Who knows what could happen. It’s always good to have more than one candidate running.’”

“’Those aren’t some tabloid scandals,’ he said of the Clinton controversies. ‘Those are job-related, national-security-related issues that matter.’”

The 2016 race isn’t yet officially on, but these early poll results could spell trouble for the Democrat Party in terms of invoking public trust.
