On the heels of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech before the U.S. Congress, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) appeared on The Kelly File to discuss what the speech means for the future of U.S.- Israeli relations.
Rubio described the speech as “incredibly important” for the American people to hear, according to Fox News Insider:
“Megyn Kelly noted that critics have said they did not hear a plan in Netanyahu’s speech.
‘I think the plan is that Iran is presented with a choice: You can either have an economy or you can have a nuclear weapons program, but you can’t have both,’ Rubio said.
The Florida senator said that sanctions are important because without them, Iran has more money for its nuclear weapons program.”
Kelly then asked Rubio his opinion on why the Obama administration may be pushing so hard for this deal with Iran.
Rubio criticized Obama’s actions towards Iran as being for political reasons.
“’They want the Iran deal to be to the second term what ObamaCare was to the first, and that is the cornerstone of his legacy,’ Rubio said, explaining that Obama wants to be able to say he made a peace deal with Iran. If it falls apart in a few years, it’s the next president’s problem, Rubio said.”
It’s not surprising that as a possible 2016 presidential contender, Rubio is looking to establish his foreign policy credentials before a campaign is officially announced.
