While giving a speech at Cornell University, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry decided to give her personal take on the 2013 Zimmerman Trial.
Her speech was titled ,”We Can’t Breathe: The Continuing Consequences of Racial Inequality.” The university’s conservative newspaper, The Cornell Review, obtained a video of her speech and published their opinion about it:
The event took place in Sage Chapel, with an audience of about 250 packed into the pews. Despite the sanctity of the setting, Harris-Perry could not resist herself in peppering curse words throughout her speech, some of which were obviously planned and not spur of the moment.
At one point, she referred to her vision of democracy–that “democracy is for losers”– as “hot sh*t” and later exclaimed she hoped Trayvon Martin “whooped the sh*t out of George Zimmerman.”
Harris-Perry covered many other topics, including George W. Bush, the Tea Party, and Beyoncé, but these topics didn’t incite as much reaction as her comments on Martin.
George Zimmerman was acquitted of murder charges after shooting Trayvon Martin in 2013. Just recently, the DOJ also announced its decision not to charge Zimmerman with civil rights violations against Martin.
